This has social implications of great importance. Government decision making is a public process based on an informed citizenry that is ultimately the decision maker of democracy as our form of chosen self governance...It's a "We The People" thing.
That is how I would structure the the abstract notion of Freedom as a top abstract concept of an Information Engineering Social System design that solves the Problem Domain of forming a "More Perfect Union"
They are extracted words from a grand design plan implemented by the Constitution. The rest of the statement from which these words are drawn is "Great Stuff" and worth entering here to honor the magnitude of the concept in bold print because it is only exceeded in conceptual abstract foundation as a system design concept by the only alternate to our Space/Time reality of what we see as the Real World.

What is that alternate "Other abstract Conceptual System foundation design plan?

.........and its co-equal foundation expressions of spiritual world conceptual foundations upon which alternate spiritual realities are based.....for those that choose to believe in the Spiritual Realm and the social structure it creates in the Real World.
Fortunately We The People decided to divide the entire Problem Domain in two parts and separate the the thing the We The People intended to create to govern ourselves in the Real World from the Spiritual World abstract conceptual belief system created for us beyond the domain of Spacetime.
In our real world Singular Human and Collective Human Being conceptual abstractions of the real world around us have evolved as a reduction of ambiguity in a process of seeking truth. Recently we arrived at a point of declaring "Self Evident Truths". An Abstract Thing is True because we declare it to be True because it is self evident.....with some passing nod to a source of Truth originating from some Other World Belief domain....for those that choose to believe it exists in some form or the other...or not...based on Freedom of Choice.
In the Real World our human quest to reduce ambiguity of human conceptual abstractions of the Real World as an explanatory model of the Real World is Science.
The Scientific Approach 1.0 to organizing a model abstraction of the real world and expressing it in an increasingly complex formalized manner to reduce ambiguity has progressed through several iterations over a long period of time analogous to the most recent advancement in form and method function of the Information Age in a relatively short period of time. So short that the result is that most people do not understand modern complexity of our social system abstractions expressed by Information Age designs. Those designs reduce Algorithmic Ambiguity to more accurate representations of Truth by design proof.
Hooray for Blockchain! That is premature to stick in this blog entry at this point but I could not resist the tell of where this thinking about the impact of Algorithmic Truth is going.
What was written in Law of the Land is still fundamentally written in the simple founding language of the Law of the Land but expressed in a new form of the Information Age that in its structure is complex and ahead of general human thinking ability for an individual to reduce complexity to simplicity. Advancing the reduction of conceptual ambiguity over time has moved what was relatively easier to understand in the Industrial Age relationship of things to our lives to an even more abstract level of Information Structures as Objects possessing Attributes, Methods and Messages to communicate with other Objects in an Information Structure implement Changes in Information in the Information Age like Changes in State in the Physical World Domain of the Industrial World to continue to accomplish changes in the Physical World but with the added enhancement of a new Information Operating System to implement Change of State of Conceptually Abstracted Object Representations defined in Information Age Structures.
That is a long thought road path to the subject of this blog entry.

The big picture .....to reduce complexity to simplicity is that we have one foot in the Industrial Age and another food in the Information Age. A few people and the various social entities they create can comprehend the complexity of the Information Age as new comers not bound by Pre-Indsutrial or Industrial Age conceptual design tools. Some born into the Industrial Age can switch horses in mid-stream to the Information Age that is object. Others remain stuck in Industrial Age thinking and Systems that were generally process oriented. They base their understanding of a complex Information Age System on Algorithm as its process action not as a conceptual abstract object knowing methods to implement process (change of state of other objects) by means of the messages they know to transmit and have the methods they know how to respond to.
Simply: Look at who is afraid of Algorithms? Those that see the threat to rule of law as a process trusted to the intelligence of the human mind.
Who sees Algorithms as a benefit to the Object called Law to improve its process to implement change in state (action application of law) is a manner that reduces abstract ambiguity? Those that understand the complex nature and integrity of Information Age Systems Design to reduce the ambiguity of conceptual social abstractions like Justice as an evidence based ObjectThing.

Justice: Perhaps one of the most conceptually abstract things in Society. Equal justice under the Law. It is a Philosophical Thing. Used to be a big Marshmallow Problem Domain perhaps starting with whatever was arbitrarily called justice by whoever (individual or ruling entity institution) had the power to make the call. Perfect example of our social progression over history to reduce conceptual ambiguity to increasingly truth based information models.
Blockchain is going to reduce conceptual ambiguity abstractions of the real world by means of verifiable tokenization of Things and their changes of state in both the Private and Public Sectors.

The application of Open Source Blockchain in the Private Sector will have proprietary protections. Just like English is an Open Source Information System structure but the application of the design in a process to produce an original creation gives proprietary rights to the creation of a book and the look and feel of the parts of the whole. However, we can read the book and see and understand the creation process using the objects that went into it...words (open source syntax and semantics), sentences (public domain or perhaps proprietary rights related if original creations) and paragraphs, probably proprietary if proprietary rights are simply claimed or public domain if permitted.
In the Public Domain of Governance everything by default, with exceptions, is Public. Both the Process and sometimes the result depending on Private Rights.
When the government uses Algorithms for governance we have a right to know how those Algorithms are structured.
When the government uses Algorithms created by the Private Domain, which may be proprietary, we have a right to know the Information Engineering Design that created the programming. Maybe not the code itself but in the Information Age the code is increasingly an automated output of autonomous coding systems, not the product of human coders.
The intent of Maidsafe is an indicator of where coding is going. It is where Artificial Intelligence is going.
