The Future of Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Vehicles

https://journalofbeautifulbusiness.com/how-ai-will-reshape-companies-industries-and-nations-an-interview-with-kai-fu-lee-of-sinovation-6409ee8af953

Interesting to look into the crystal ball and speculate!

Crystal balling AI is relatively simple.  AI is logarithmic.  A set of rules to make a decision and the decision is a function of the rules.  Given the same detected situation and all of the variable inputs the decision will invariably be the same in every case.  If it is different then one or more of the sensed inputs is different.

A very cut and dried situation.

As AI takes over decision making from human beings there will be conflict.  Conflict when a human decides to do something based on their sensors and their brains processing what is sensed to result in a decision action that is contrary to that of an AI decision.

This is exactly where AI intelligence comes into conflict with human intelligence.  The coming focus of conflict is self driving cars.  The nature of the conflict is so obvious yet not acknowledged by human beings because......AI driving a vehicle will make decisions that humans will not like, decisions that human drivers will resist because......they are human!

For example:  The application of AI to drive vehicles will make a decision for all AI vehicles to drive at the speed limit.  The speed limit is the law.  Historically set by a human decision that the speed limit is by definition the best, safest speed for all vehicles to travel.  Violation of the speed limit by a human driver its a matter of human decision.

Under what circumstances may an AI controlled vehicle drive faster or slower than the speed limit and/or other existing traffic rules?  The controlling factor is safety.  The AI driven vehicle will make the decision of what is safe in accordance with its sensors detecting physical location and all other related factors.

Given a set of real time real world set of sensors used by all AI Programming any and all AI controlled vehicles will drive the same speed.  It is algorithmic.

On a congested road all AI controlled vehicles will drive the same speed.  There will be no passing of one AI vehicle by another unless it is a function of an algorithmic decision making factor of an individual AI driven machine.  A condition that will be an exception to the rule.  There will normally  be no lane changing or passing of one vehicle by another.  There will. be no human based decision to drive faster than any other vehicle.

A human driver will not be in control?

Why would a human driver controlling the speed of th vehicle drive faster than any other AI controlled vehicle or drive in a manner other than any AI controlled vehicle on the road without some  independently granted and sanctioned  authority to do so?

Impatient and reckless human drivers will give up their self granted right to drive as they damn well please at any time and anywhere only when their cold dead hands are pried from the steering wheel.

Driving is a privilege granted by the state.  It is not a right like gun ownership.

Human nature will come into conflict with the common good.  The common good will be determined by the government.  Government does not function very well when it dictates social behavior by mandate and that behavior is not acceptable nor tolerated by some segment and magnitude of the population.

In the future transition to AI driven vehicles there will be human resistance.  There will be a mix of legacy vehicles on the road.  The burden of driving like an AI vehicle will be upon the non-AI vehicle.  Violation of human driving in any manner not like an AI controlled vehicle will be, must be punishable by severe  fines and restrictions.  Legacy vehicles will not be under the control of autonomous AI but must contain by retrofit all or most of the sensors of AI driven vehicles in order to monitor the actions of human driven vehicles in real time and detect the violation of AI driving rules by human control drivers and sanction them accordingly.

Some human control drivers are not going to like that situation of state control of their driving that is benchmarked to AI controlled vehicles.

Duke University Mantis Camera

I have been following development of the Duke camera tech for years.  As the comment I the video says the implications for surveillance are immense.  Cons will lead.  Also from China news today are chips in all cars for tracking.

I foresee this for the USA to replace or be in addition to license plates.
