Who's Who - The Big Data Census and the NSA

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register.

Times have changed.

Then the government direct people to go to a place to be counted.  To be uniquely identified by a few data elements contained in a central record.  Good time to be a scribe.

Now the government comes to the people.  All the time.  To be uniquely identified by thousands of data elements contained in a central record cloud.  Good time to be an IT worker.

From the NYT:

"The National Security Agency is harvesting huge numbers of images of people from communications that it intercepts through its global surveillance operations for use in sophisticated facial recognition programs, according to top-secret documents."

New motto for the NSA:  "Total Census all the time"

Add a new phrase to my list of Unique "Phrase" bragging rights because these words in quotes get no hit results on Google.  I am the first to put these words together to express in this specific manner:  "Total Census, All the Time"

When: The census information is not only used to identify a unique individual but also locate that person in real time and present real time Space/time attributes and relationships (where are they and what are they doing and how does what they are doing relate to other real time information connected to whom they may be interacting.................

Then:  I will call that "Real Time Census, All the Time".   That scores me bragging rights for the creation of two phrases in a single blog post entry that did not appear in a google search at the time I created them.  I am really thinking this morning.

Go for a home run, bases loaded?

Sept De'un Coup?

Real time census is required for a drone strike.

Scratch a few people from the census.

The most chilling words ever spoken were not 9

"We are from the NSA and we are here to take a census"

Go for a home run?

Sept De'un Coup?

The most chilling words ever spoken were not 9.

I can go that 2 less words better:

"We are from the NSA and we are here to take a census"

Home Run!  Google this:  "We are from the NSA".   Actually searchable on Google only seconds after posting this blog entry!  Amazing.

What if the NSA had to send us an email everytime they had to say that to each of us because they are recording something uniquely personal to "help" us.

Super Spam Time!

Maybe a better idea is to simply send a text message.  Email is old school.

Perhaps, in order to save considerable text message traffic band width the NSA should simply send us a unique chime tone on our cell phones every time they record a unique data element related directly to us.

Pavlov's dog?

Every time we hear the chime fear is the reaction.

The more we fear the more we seek security.

NSA is in the security business!

NSA creates it own market.

People should not fear the government.  Government should fear its people.
