In the mind swirl of this election eve I look for some conceptually solid life saving ring to grasp. It is one that I have to throw to myself. This blog entry is about the wind up and the pitch. Reversion to my most fundamental thoughts about the real world and the conceptual world we have abstracted from it. Our conceptual abstraction. A good thing and a bad thing. Going down to the most granular level, which is always binary where the real thing is linked by an action to its conceptual thing representation is the base. Anything below that is mystical where there is no real world connection. Just a binary where mystical equals mystical or in other words: Pure Conceptual equals Pure Conceptual. They are one and the same. Equal. A conceptual thing with no relationship to any other conceptual thing other than itself.
Unity. Eternity. Oneness with no other one.
I don't go there. I only go to the most fundamental granular level I perceive as reality. The relationship of something I perceive as "real" to another thing that is its conceptual abstraction in my mind. Way down to the most granular level where there is no lower to go. At that point I can get my bearings and get a handle on understanding a very complicated world of real and conceptually abstracted relationships. It is a difficult problem domain universe to understand. Especially when going beyond the real to conceptual relationships to the domain of conceptual relationship to conceptual relationships that must be boiled down or parsed to their supporting real to conceptual foundations.
Without getting to that bedrock real thing related to its conceptual thing representation there is no bridge to the real world anchor that validates what would otherwise be a pure fantasy, mystical world. A place where the mind is lost and can't get back for lunch.
Donald Trump should only exist in an unreal fantasy world, not the real world. A fantasy movie where we walk out of the theater knowing that it was a fantasy world inside but not connected to the real world outside. Inside where we suspend dis-belief for the pure enjoyment of make believe where anything in our wild imagination is possible and Superman can fly.
This is how I save myself and reconnect to reality. My faith that reality of a physical world that is self evident to be physical (faith of course that it is and not some comic reality game played out in wave lengths of time). A place where Time might be the ultimate conceptual thing that relates only to itself. Where time and eternity, past present and future is all there is and time itself as a verb becomes a noun. The one and only Noun. Unity. Maybe Einstein could grasp it, I can't. It is a given. My starting point is where Time meets and relates to a thing called reality and reality is where a thing can only relate to another thing through the implementing action of Time.
What does that give me to work with in my mind and in my physical existence of mind/body?
The fundamental Object Oriented Noun/Verb/Noun of expressing relationships. Physical or conceptual and based on that the even higher order level of Noun Named Conceptual Thing to Noun Named Conceptual Thing going farther out on the Conceptual Limb of its reality based tree until the limb breaks if I can't get back to its supporting Real/Conceptual structure and I conceptually implement a relationship with gravity.
I feel the limb bending in the intensifying swirl of the wind.
I am confident that I know the way back. All I have to do is go back to increasingly more solid structure of real and conceptual thought in my head. I will make the storm and swirl go away. I will extend my arm and calm the seas. Part them to their singular binary relationship real water on one side, conceptual abstraction on the other and walk down the solid ground in the middle connecting them.
Metaphorically but that is not a bad image. Can't claim authorship on that one.
The level of conceptual abstraction of this this election has gone so far out on the supporting limb of reality and its connecting levels of abstractions that we create that I wonder if at the aggregate level of a nation composed of millions of real people relating to an increasingly conceptualized abstraction of our ourselves and our country can get back to the reality that it is all based on. The truths we hold to be self evident. I think I can (therefore I can). I wonder if We the People can. That problem has been faced before. The old school way of getting back to where we were before was a physical real person leader. A hero person that unites by making physical connections like: Follow me!
Worked for Moses. He parted the water. Ever since then we collectively and increasingly followed conceptual abstractions as our guide that have been seized as the banner of an individual we continue to follow as Moses was but not physically. Conceptually but with our physical eyes on a candidate leader through the physical/conceptual abstraction conveyed to us through technology.
Feelings are more conceptually abstract than thinking. That is my belief...founded (I think) on reality but hey that is my reality. They way I order my personal problem domain called Life. Not that feelings are less related to reality, as I see them, but only having an Object Oriented relationship that is a beautiful thing. A relationship where either plays the role of Parent or Child of the other in an Object Oriented conceptual structure depending on their State and change of State.
It is simpler to manage feelings than to manage thinking. This election has been about managing the feelings of the electorate called We the People who vote (not We the Corporate Entities that vote with dollars). That is what our media does. That is what what politicians do. That is what We the Corporate Entities want (because we are non emotional thinking abstractions of people that have conceptual feelings driven by money and are motivated by the mysterious hand of the market feelings to think seriously about how to make more money).
The strategy that We the People have been subject to? We the Corporate is smart. It thinks. It thinks of the best way to manage. Manage the feelings of the people, focus them on feelings, bad feelings vs good feelings and they won't be thinking about issue realities or even begin to know the issues that they should be thinking about for the common good. Present the worst of us as represented by the feelings of one Candidate to run against what is presented as the feelings of the best of us presented by the other Candidate.
We are a divided nation. One party vs another but both of those parties in the pocket and acting as an agent of Corporate Management Thinking serving its agenda.
Family Values were a Republican strategy in past elections. The Family Values are now in the Democratic domain. As identified with either party they are still about focusing on feeling, not issues that deal with the reality related to thinking about how to promote those values through real structures of support that accomplish their objectives, our objectives.
Conceptual Thinking about ourselves and our society has been undermined by the manipulation of Conceptual Feeling about ourselves and our society.
The two abstractions have been detached from their structural relationship to a connection with the real world by a third party political entity that has always operated behind the curtain. The Thinking Party that plays two Feeling Parties against each other.
To paraphrase: I can hire half of the public to oppose the other half of the public. Emotional unthinking opposition is always stronger than opposition based on thinking as in a chess game. That is why generals stand on the hill directing the slaughter of their two enemy forces. They do not feel the pain but hope to benefit from it.
The preceding is an extremely round about way of grasping my life preserver. Works for me. In the bigger picture it is no more than the same exercise that I amuse myself with thinking about a monetary system established on a direct connection of an independent conceptual monetary units uniquely identified at the granular arithmetic level to equally granular accounts at the uniquely granular arithmetic managed by accounting entities for granular human or corporate granular arithmetically unique abstractions of all entities using monetary units in a monetary system as a medium of exchange for things of a real or conceptual associated value.
That is to me an excellent model for creating and implementing the the relationship between the real and conceptual world that we uniquely operate in for our common and individual welfare over time, as long as it lasts and our own individual time span interval in which we are aware of out own thinking and feeling relationships to others existing with us. Striving for the best possible results of our best combination of real and abstract thinking and feeling.
Maybe our progress in Artificial Intelligence is the antidote we create for ourselves to give a more solid structure of thought to integrate the higher order abstractions of our logic and reason thinking with the nature of our equally mysterious but real capacity to feel in both the real and conceptual domains as well as think in both of those domains.
Intelligence really does not have an Artificial Parent/Child Object Oriented relationship, set of artificial attributes or messages to implement those attributes in an Operating System? We have intelligence, like nature does and apply it to create things of a conceptual nature in the real world increasingly independent but always related to the its physical representation.
The progress of mankind has always been based on our intelligent ability to extract by abstraction the conceptual properties of a real physical thing from the binding of those abstracted conceptualized properties to the thing itself.
That is our unique creative process. The one that we must always be easily followed back to the source of their real binding of a thing, politics for example (or money) to what it real is and what through all the conceptual path of dis-association from its real essence it really does (or does not do if we are always to be the continuing collective benefactors of our own intelligence).......

I do worry that maybe we have reached Peak Intelligence?
Is this election the high water mark turning point to Idiocracy? It is if all we continue to do is go down the path dominated by the human nature of Feeling decoupled from the logic and reason of thinking which is increasingly being done artificially for us in a future where the burden of thinking about driving for example is extracted from the feeling of driven and the result is that we are being driven by our feelings. Or....will we be sitting in the back seat thinking more about things we should be thinking about......or just playing games and texting?

Maybe not the dark side of Technology but the dark side of Technology in the hands of those that would use it in application contrary to the nature of the very highly structured relational integration of hardware and software that is the Technology itself. To turn a system that is the product of our most intelligent thinking fact based design into a tool of baseless emotional corruption that feeds emotional, non factual garbage in to produce through the multiplying effect of Technology even more noise like a megaphone that is called garbage out.
Bullshit Meters are amusing detectors. Their parsing is not exactly state of the art in AI but the concept certainly shows the direction of the application of AI to our conceptual human world to filter out noise called BS and identify its correlation with truth based fact. What is the truth? May the value of AI is not so much to drive a car for us but to help us to conceptually see better where are in the world as human beings and where we are going.
IBM Watson is in its intelligence infancy but growing up fast. Perhaps it will be the entity that leads us out of the cave where we only see shadows on the wall. Shadows not cast so much from outside light sources but the one we ourselves cast up on the wall as false truths.

Somehow moral decision making has to be an integral part of the technology. Something that is emerging as hard questions relating to self driving cars and drone warfare. We already have human algorithms for that in the head of every person that run the range from good to bad or totally deranged. Maybe the best AI can do is to suggest operating within established peramaters.

What Would "Data" Do?
Maybe the premise of a new TV series? How would the thinking Data contend with and integrate the feeling algorithms in his AI programming. What features and bugs would be discovered and applied to his/her (androgynous) character.
West World was a total bust! I had hoped for more than a vehicle for conveying gratuitous violence. the TV series had so much potential! It wanders around making noise but going nowhere in structural development beyond adding more characters and their meaningless wandering plot lines. It is another Lost. It strings the viewer along who seeks some sort redeeming meaningful resolution of the human/robot interface conflict that never seems to come. I quit watching it. If I had continued I would have asked myself why I did and question my own intelligence.
Perhaps an AI program would make some sense of it?
Probably not. GIGO.
Perhaps AI could write a TV series that is intelligent and dominates the market in viewer popularity? Would the AI program be based on our highest or lowest human nature? Would the AI "Data" character be our new Marvel Comics series non human hero? The anti Darth Vader?
