Years ago I wrote in this blog...I will have to find the link--about Tim's idea for individuals to control the use of their personal data. A great idea at the time but he turned it over to some graduate student to work on.
The core of the idea was that every person has their own unique identifier as a unique digital entity that relates them to their personal information. They have certain rights to their own information and how it is used connected to their authorization (or not) to use personally related information.
A classic case of what a thing is vs what the thing does.
What personal information is and what can be done with it. What can be done or not done with it is entirely under the control of the individual. They can discover who is doing what with it and weather what information they have related to a person's unique ID was authorized by the person.
When the idea surfaced I was looking at IPv6. Every person in the world could have their own personal secure-IPv6 containing personal private information that they have control to release and/or restrict.
IPv6 identifies a device on the internet. A person with an IPv6 is a unique autonomous device with properties, methods, and messages on the internet.
The use of IPv6 as a personal ID is a no brainer. The internet is built on them!

The structure of the system is so obviously based on making a person a device on the internet with a personal IPv6!
It is the Internet of Things!

All human beings are collectively the top level SuiperClassObjet fundamental thing in the scheme of the IoT. A singular instance of the Class is a discrete most granular level entity human being.
