Closed caption on TV goes way back to a requirement that it be provided by public broadcast. It's history is interesting. It began in 1972. It had to be applied after the fact then it was applied by fast typists. Then came rough real time machine translations aided by human correction.

Perhaps CC owes its development to the need for the NSA to transcribe spoken communications to the written word for intelligence gathering using computer analysis.
However CC evolved it is very accurate today as well as fast. Instead of typing in a search of the movie data base I simply say it to Siri on my Apple TV. Marvelous!
AI is like a fast learning child. Learning at a rate that increases self taught autonomous intelligence. It can analyze audio speech transcribed automatically to words to extract meaning abstractions. It knows what is being said as well as what is being literally spoken. Terrific!
If;Then: If AI can do that then it can apply some form of fact check action in the context of any statement relating to an fact based construction. One person's fact is another person's fiction. That is the ambiguity of fact checking. What is a fact and what is a fiction. Scientific method is an approach to that ProblemDomain that applies ambiguity reduction methods in search of objective truths that are defined in various degrees of certitude. Math is a good tool to do that. Math has a low degree of ambiguity as an Operating System with Application to a RealWorld ProblemDomain that runs the range from ObjectiveNaturalScience to more SubjectiveSocialScience.
What might CC 2.0 look like? Maybe old school CC plus RealTime FactChecking. Commedians use a clever methodology of FactChecking to express and analysis of what was said to the degree of Truthiness of what was said and/or what was meant. Perhaps there could be two lines of CC displayed. One at the top (OldSchool) and one at the bottom that is an AI fact check analysis presented as scalar measurement of some kind. A step in that direction is a machine based BS analyzer. A more academic version would be a content ambiguity real time analysis. How accurate is what was said in a test against an objective history data base of fact in RealTime? That is a machine measurement. What is really the truth of the matter is a look at why the machine gives the measurement.
Truthiness is like a BlockChain. New truths are based on established truths....or not. The "OrNot" state leads down a branch to be abandoned when it is dis-proven by the truth of the main branch. Oh how I wish that Abstracted SocialTruths were so simple that "wrong" thinking could be abandoned so easily and quickly by disproving them against a standard of established BlockChainTruth.
An established BlockChain of validated truth progression goes back to a founding rock upon which is progressed. A SocialRock: All men are created equal. The degree of truth? Self Evident. It is true because we choose to say it is true and to say it is not true is a false branch to be abandoned. Perhaps at the cost of life and destruction.
Is there one true continuation of the BlockChain that is at least self evident, more true than false when the truth is ambiguous? FuzzyTruth in a binary world? Perhaps many paths of future BlockChain extension can lead to the same main path? Is that the Nature of BlockChainDemocracy?
We are in an Information Age where machines and machine learning AI can create abstract structures of observation and analysis better and faster than a single human being as well as crowd sourced all HumanBeings. Soon we will see application at the single human level in SelfDrivingCars. When SelfDrivingCars talk to each other the Application of AI to the collective network of all cars progresses.
We each have our own BlockChain of SelfProclaimed SelfEvident truths that extend our BlockChainLife down a Personal Branch. How does the MainBranch proceed? In the right direction when FreeSpeech is SelfEvident and we all talk to each other like our cars do as they speed down the road carrying us on the RoadOfLife?
