It would seem logical that when a Concept has value more in the structure of the concept itself rather that its association with any physical thing of value then the good old term "Market Share" and all of its associated concepts that are mostly thought of in terms of and in relationship to physical goods would apply.
Therefore how about this expression to describe it:
"Conceptual Market Share"
Not a popular term as far as google is concerned. Just one page of hits when in quotes.
For Example: I think that religion deals in Conceptual Market share. So do social/political sectors. Tea Party. Owning a large part of the Market has power. Exclusive ownership has great power.
In the Information Age new and fundamentally big Conceptual Systems are emerging. Other existing systems are migrating to expanded conceptual based systems on computers with associated opportunities for expansion simply because they have become computer based. Opportunities to "Super Size" existing orders.
Media: Seems to have migrated to a total conceptual base from a fact base!
Market share of the hearts and minds monetized in some fashion on the back end to make it pay off in money.
We played a hearts and minds strategy in Vietnam with a direct approach: Grab them by their balls and their hearts and minds will follow.
Fox Conceptual Market Share strategy: Grab them by their fears, hates, insecurities, social/economic belief vulnerabilities and their hearts and minds will follow.
A post-script added thought here:
A thing that goes viral on the internet wins Conceptual Market Share. Maybe dominates it by speed and impact. Since it is a David that can defeat a Goliath the nature of going viral in relation to Market Share and the potential power that conveys is worth more than a small amount of study.
The financial world works on leverage. The ideal is to leverage all with nothing. Maybe been there, done that already!
Going viral has great Conceptual Market Share value and power.
